All about Flossing

You always brush twice a day, avoid sugary snacks between meals, and go to the 

dentist regularly. Do you still have to floss your teeth?

The short answer: Yes, at least once a day. Flossing is probably your single most important weapon against plaque, the gummy bacterial biofilm that sticks to the surfaces of your teeth. There are many treatments available for cleaning fossils.

Brushing is a good start but flossing removes plaque in places a brush can’t reach, like the small gaps between teeth and under the gums. Fossils also polish tooth surfaces and decrease the risk of gum disease.

For decades dentists have recommended flossing as an essential part of oral hygiene. Regular flossing plays a crucial role in your dental hygiene. When you skip flossing, plaque can build up between your teeth and along your gum line. 

Over time, this can increase your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Why flossing is important

Flossing protects our gums and teeth and helps us to keep our teeth perfectly clean.

When you neglect to floss, plaque and bacteria can easily build up. If they are not removed properly the bacteria will eventually begin to irritate the gum tissue, and this will get worse as the bacteria increases.

When left untreated, this can eventually cause Gingivitis, a periodontal disease that causes red and swollen gums to bleed easily.

As well as causing irritation, the bacteria between your teeth will also destroy your tooth’s enamel, causing a cavity.

Flossing will remove this plaque to prevent the build-up of harmful bacteria. Regularly flossing is a great way to check your mouth for potential cavities, as well as swelling or redness. 

It will also make your teeth look brighter by removing plaque and excess food that you may not spot in a mirror.

1. Protects from other diseases

If left untreated, bacteria in an unhealthy mouth can harm the rest of your body. Gingivitis can enter the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body, leading to heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory illnesses. Flossing only takes a couple of minutes out of your day, but will have huge benefits on your long-term health.

2. Reduces the risk of cavities

Tooth decay can result in a cavity, which causes a tiny opening or hole in the hard surface of your teeth known as enamel.

Although this process takes time, the more plaque you have on the enamel of your teeth, the higher your risk of developing a cavity.

Flossing between your teeth at least once a day can help get rid of hidden food particles and plaque buildup, and lower your risk of tooth decay.

3. Stop tooth decay between teeth

Dentists know that flossing is a crucial step in avoiding cavities. A sliver of sticky candy caught between two teeth can result in a cavity-causing plague within two days. Avoid the sound of a dental drill by flossing your teeth once a day. Tooth decay is damage that occurs to your teeth, which can potentially result in cavities, dental abscesses, or even tooth loss.

We at braces and kids should recommend everyone to do flossing twice a day as it keeps our mouth and teeth clean and healthy. Which will never lead to tooth decay and dental issues.
